3 Sustainability Innovations From LOral That Are Making A Huge Impact3 Sustainability Innovations By LOral That Are Making A Positive Environmental ImpactFinding a job that combines impact withinnovation isnt easy, but thats what Danielle managed to do when she becamethe Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at LOral USA. Danielle has spent her career helpingcompanies make sustainability a priority. Shes worked for fashion, lifestyle, and entertainment companies in the past, but shes never had a betteropportunity to make a difference than at LOral. Thats probably because thecompany is the world leader in beauty and personal care, and between their 30+brands, theyre also at the forefront of innovative sustainability practices. We spoke to Danielle to get an inside look atsome of the most exciting sustainability innovations under way at LOral.Heres what she told us.1. Carbon-Neutral Manufacturing Powered By Renewable EnergyFor any company, manufacturing physicalprod ucts is an energy-intensive process, which can take a serious toll on theenvironment. In fact, the industrial production sector is responsible for 22 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in theUS. Thats why LOral found a different way to power their US factoriesrenewable energy. As a parte of their effort to achieve carbon-neutralstatus at their 21 US manufacturing sites in 2019, LOral pre-purchased 15years worth of renewable natural gas. They also take advantage of a variety of other renewable energy sourceslike wind power, landfill gas, and solar energy. Thanks to these efforts, Danielle says,LOral manufacturing will be running on 100% renewable energy. 2. Sustainable Packaging Innovations, Like This One SEED Phytonutrients is one of LOrals mostinnovative new brands. Not only does the brands line of personal care productsutilize a unique cold pressed sunflower and camelina seed oil formulaboth ofwhich are sourced from local, organic farmstheyre also packaged in 100percent recyclable materials.Using materials like chalk, clay, andpost-consumer paper, the team at SEED Phytonutrients created a bottle that isleid only natural and recyclable, but beautiful. You can even keep theeco-friendly bottles in the shower theyre that durable. But for LOral, SEED was just another step ina long line of environmental accomplishments.3. Theyre Going Cradle To Cradle With SPOTCradle to Cradle is an organization thatcertifies sustainably, ethically, and responsibly manufactured products. Theyensure that products are made with clean materials, minimal carbon footprint, and can be recycled back into the economy. Essentially, theyre recognizingcompanies creating the production processes of the future. And for LOral, Danielle tells us, Cradle toCradles superb standards are an important benchmarkwhich is why they createdSPOT (the Sustainable Product Optimization Tool)a sustainability analysis tooldeveloped in partnership with Quantis and EY.The C2C certification mirrors our philosophyon d eveloping products from concept to be sustainable, Danielle says. SPOThelps us evaluate our products in categories like formula, packaging, environment, and social impact.brde year we launched five skincare productsfor Garnier Skin Active with the Cradle to Cradle certification, Danielletells us. It was the largest certification of a mass skincare brand at thattime. And we have a goal that 100% of our new and renovated products will havean environmental or social improvement by the end of next year.Making The Personal PowerfulI joined LOreal because of the enormousopportunities to connect the dots for people who use these products all thetime, Danielle says. Everyday people can move toward better environmental andsocial practices and make that come to life with the products that they knowand love.Being able to transform LOrals iconic lineof products was particularly powerful for Danielle, whos been a life-longcustomer of the company.Maybelline Great Lash Mascara is somethingIve used since I was 14 years old, and I didnt realize until I got here thatthat mascara was made in a facility thats powered on solar energy, Daniellesays. Its amazing that within our portfolio wehave some of the most iconic products in the beauty and personal care space,Danielle says. And that they can also be symbols to represent positive impactson the environment and mitigating climate change, to me, is really powerful. It turns out you can have a career that combines impact with innovationand you cando it at LOral.Ready towrite your own sustainability story at a company that cares?
